It would be very difficult to provide a complete definition of what ska music is without at the same time providing a look back into history, to see how ska music first originated and evolved.
Let's take a look at the roots of ska music, how and why it grew in the Carribean as a jumping form of dance music and then, in the Jamaican heat, slowed down into what we know today as rocksteady, eventually being transformed into reggae. This period in the evolution of ska music is known as The First Wave. Ever wonder what draws skinheads to ska music, or what Bob Marley was doing before he played reggae? If you take a look at pictures of him when he was young you'll see, of all things, a shaved head!?!?!? More on that and other things later...
